I was using www.ps3seeker.com/wii for my Wii intel and they sucked. It was the unlisted Shopko came through for me. HOWEVER, when a shipment does come in Toys R' Us always gets the biggest. Ars Technicia also notes that this Sunday Best Buy and Circut City will be running Wii ads. Good luck. Other than that, I know I'm not a regular poster here BUT just so you know I'm going on Vacation tomarrow and unless I jump on Ben's machine or hit a Library in SF I'm not going to be touching a computer. It's going to be fantastica-awesome! w00t! |

| That looks awesome! I dunno though. Kruger says that Microsoft is already declaring victory in this "generation", which is humorous on a number of fronts. Still, once Halo 3 out I can see them wanting to move on pretty quick to avoid being completely overshadowed by the Wii (which has yet to trot out the big guns, like Mario, Metroid, etc). | |

my current phone is a 700p http://www.vzwshop.com/index.aspx?ZipCode=53202&ProgramCode=buytreo I bought it before Christmas and got some other discounts, but the phone was $399 for me without an agreement, but it did require me to get the unlimited data plan at 50$ a month. My treo has everything the iPhone has, but the OS is open, and i can write apps for it if i want. My music is not DRM'd, and i can use my phone all weekend without charging it, and if i needed to i can replace the battery. the 700p is still the best phone on the market, even with the iPhone out there. the iPhone has a neat interface, like the Wii does, but if you actually want to use more than one application for your PDA/qwerty phone then the palm OS is the only way to go. http://palmsource.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodID=54886 i have this, which is priceless while learning my Japaneses. or i could get any of these http://smartphonetools.treobits.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=276 the iPhone will be a zune until it matches the marketplace of a Treo! |

| B_W, thanks for the YouTube link. This is yet another case where knowing a little basic physiology could save someone's life. Hyponatremia does not take that long to set in (our plasma osmolarity can only vary by 10 or 15 milli-osmols before we get sick) and (as the video proves) can be fatal. What happened to the time-tested tactics of radio promotions like name that song, tatoo the name of my program on your butt, or make a complete fool of yourself for nation-wide shame? I suppose this woman has accomplished that on her own. Can we submit this for nomination to the Darwin awards? Wait, no... she's a mother of three (at age 28 she has 3 kids?), so sadly she has already passed on her genetic material to the next generation. | |

iPhone is lame. Too much $$$, no replaceable battery (bad Apple, Bad!), no VOIP. I mean, if I could use Skype on the iPhone that would at least be something. Shoot, on the whole iPhone is like Cartmanland. It looks great, but you can't come! Epically Stan and Kyle! AppleTV is lame. I have an Xbox 360 and it lets me play games. Apple should have made the long standing rumor of partnering with Nintendo come true. Nintendo for games, Apple for media delivery. That would be a good 1, 2 punch. No talk of Leopard. No new Macs. This MacWorld 2007 was lame. In lieu of new Macs they should have talked about Leopard (Epically with Vista coming). Something like a shipping date would be great! |

| I just had a very interesting game of Supreme Commander. I managed to find the SC equivalent of the rapid-fire Big Bertha, which is now an experimental unit (and it looks like a gigantic Bloomin' Onion of Death). Each shot requires 100000K of energy, which is damn hard to reach. As a result, you will be energy starved simply by firing a single shot. It is also HIDEOUSLY inaccurate, so much that the safest spot in its firing range is actually what it is firing at. This actually matters, as now SC includes shield generators, some of which can take multiple hits from this thing and still function. Thus, I had a game where I was raining death down on my opponent's base, and yet not doing a damn thing to it. The cone of fire was so diffuse (I'm guessing a 1.5 KM radius) that I rarely hit a shield generator fast enough to take it down, and when I did another nearby shield generator just took up the slack. Thus, even with all of these insanely destructive weapons around, the game designers actually managed to bring the defense up to match it. Even if you get these things, you're still probably going to need to undertake a good ol' fashioned assault. | |

In other news, Sony must have lost their collective mind, becuase the Pr0n won't be available on their lilly white blue-ray. http://www.sgknox.com/2007/01/11/no-porn-on-blu-ray/ If this is the case, Sony mind as well just give up now. In other news here's someone worth being sad over their passing: +++ TOKYO - Momofuku Ando, the Japanese inventor of instant noodles a dish that has sustained American college students for decades has died. He was 96. Nissin Food Products Co., the company Ando founded, said on its Web site that he died Friday after suffering a heart attack. Born in Taiwan, Ando founded his company in 1948 from a humble family operation. Faced with food shortages in post-World War II Japan, Ando thought a quality, convenient noodle product would help feed the masses. In 1958, his "Chicken Ramen" — the first instant noodle — was introduced after many trials. Following its success, the company added other products, such as the "Cup Noodle" in 1971. "The Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum" opened in 1999 in Ikeda City in western Japan commemorating his inventions. Ando gave a speech at the company's New Year ceremony and enjoyed Chicken Ramen for lunch with Nissin employees on Thursday before falling ill, Japan's largest daily Yomiuri reported. He is survived by his wife, Masako. |

Crow, Do you have a Wii, or were you looking at the weather channel? :) Yeah, I haven't been posting much because I have been enjoying my Wii to excess...after Johnney and I waited all night for one. (in december) That was a cold, cold night, but the Wii has warmed my heart in so many ways it was well worth it! We played the hell out of that over the holdiay season, and so far I think just by showing it off I personally sold 15 systems. Never seen anything like it. Anyway... In other news, I'm not gonna feel bad for these guys one second: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070108/wl_nm/iraq_saddam_dc If I survived their persecution, and they were standing in front of me with a noose around their necks, I would tell them to go to hell also. I might even do some yelling. B_W |

Yes, unfortunately my Wii post was made from Krugers as I have not been able to obtain one either. --- That's an interesting State Department article, and indeed the money trail is more complicated than my original statement. There are some interesting items in the article though: 1. CIA money was funneled to Islamist Afghan militants by Pakistan's ISI. 2. The CIA orchestrated and perpetuated Saudi Arabia's aid to the Islamist Arab militants. So, the CIA took the care use proxies. Probably S.O.P.; one thing the government excels at is running for cover. But when bin Laden's "House of Helpers" got involved in '84, we were clearly in a position to stem the flow of resources by leaning on these proxies (and our allies like the U.K.) to be more careful with the money train. The Jihadist ideologies of Azzam and bin Laden were widely published. If the CIA were paying attention, it would have been blatantly obvious that they presented a threat down the road. So granted, the issue is complicated but we were hardly innocent or powerless. All the State Department really claims is that we never worked face-to-face with what would become Al-Qaida. Of course Al-Qaida denies receiving support from us. Even if they knew of the CIA's little laundering operation in Pakistan, they could hardly admit that complication. Remember, their strength stems directly from Allah, not Western capital and technology! "And we did have clear means to stop Hitler and Stalin: We had people with guns, and we knew what country they were in." True, but by the time Hitler gained any influence in the early '20s, we also had a staunchly isolationist America. And Hitler was in Europe, where such an operation would not have been taken kindly so soon after the Great War. So I maintain that we couldn't have stopped Hitler, not without consulting the future, as you say. That ball was soundly on Europe's court, and they dropped it, not us. A far lesser degree of prognostication and military activity would have been required to nip al Qaida in the bud. |

And we did have clear means to stop Hitler and Stalin: We had people with guns, and we knew what country they were in. This coincides exactly with our means to deal with bin Laden in the early 80's. Of course, we didn't know that they would be a threat down the road, which, again, is the exact same problem we faced in the 80's with bin Laden. But hey, if you want to determine who we kill based on astrology, palm reading, tarrot cards or whatever scrying method you prefer, you may also want to look into training dragons and warlocks to help us in the GWot. Maybe US Army Rangers can fly in on Pegasi and the Marines can unleash the deadly Kraken against Iranian subs. |

Well, more specifically, the CIA supported Abdullah Yusuf Azzam, who in turn recruited bin Laden to beef up the mujahideen. Azzam's eventual assassination left Osama with an army but no war to fight. Yet even before the assassination, bin Laden's desire for a Jihad against the west were quite out in the open, yet the CIA (and the Saudis) continued support for some time. So, actually we *were* instrumental in Osama's rise to power in the 80's, and we *could* have stopped him. If you have articles to the contrary I would love to read them. By contrast, we weren't nearly so active in putting Hitler or Stalin in power, nor did we have clear means to stop them, so your comparisons don't really hold up. |
|
| Posted by: CrowScape | Posted on: Tuesday January 2 2007 6:22pm |
| Nearscape: Contrary to popular wisdom (which as we all know is all too heavy on the "popular" and light on the "wisdom") we did NOT train and arm bin Ladin. We trained and armed many Afghanis, but bin Ladin was not among them. Besides, your logic is similar to saying we should have got Hitler in 1914, or Stalin in 1890. As much as I do like the idea of nipping problems in the bud, I draw the line at propositions that require the prognosticatory powers of Nostradamus. | |
| Posted by: nearscape | Posted on: Monday January 1 2007 10:47pm |
| Or better yet, we should have gotten him in the 80's before we trained and armed him to go mess with the Soviets. | |
